Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp went down globally on Monday for several hours. At about 15:30hrs GMT, Facebook and its sister apps started displaying error messages and later went down totally.

The outage lasted for close to five hours. Billions of people who use these apps for their businesses, chat with family and friends, shop online and others were unable to access them. The helpless users took to twitter to share their frustrations.

Facebook itself informed its users about the outage on their Twitter page

We’re aware that some people are having trouble accessing Facebook app. We’re working to get things back to normal as quickly as possible, and we apologize for any inconvenience”.

Instagram also tweeted this to its users

Instagram and friends are having a little bit of a hard time right now, and you may be having issues using them. Bear with us, we’re on it! #instagramdown”

 

WhatsApp also tweeted this to its users:

We’re aware that some people are experiencing issues with WhatsApp at the moment. We’re working to get things back to normal and will send an update here as soon as possible.

Thanks for your patience!”

After several hours, Facebook Instagram and WhatsApp are back online. They all took to their twitter pages to inform their users about the restoration of the system.

 

On the other hand, Mark Zuckerberg who owns these companies is said to have lost $7 billion as a result of the outage.

He took to his Facebook page and apologized to users who were affected by the outage.
