    IS RICE GOOD FOR YOU?

Have you ever wondered whether rice is healthy? It is one of the most exported foods around the world. Every day people consume millions of tons of rice while playing big bamboo slot. We’ve put together five important facts you should know about this topic.

    IS RICE HEALTHY?

People who live in Asia eat rice much more often than in Western cultures. Nevertheless, rice is one of the staple foods of humans worldwide.

Here are five facts to explain whether rice is healthy.

    1. unpolished rice is healthy

Rice is a husked grain. Rice is a husked grain. As a husked grain, the rice grains are surrounded by inedible straw husks. Once the rice has been separated from the husks, it is known as brown rice.

Depending on how the rice is processed, it is referred to as brown rice or white rice:

    • Brown rice is unpolished brown rice. You can also find it under the name “brown rice” or “wholegrain rice”. Per 100 grams, brown rice consists of 74 grams of carbohydrates, seven grams of protein, two grams of fat, and two grams of fiber.
    • White rice is a polished brown rice that can be kept for years. It no longer has a seed coat or germ. This is also the disadvantage of white rice: without the seed coat, this rice has fewer nutrients. Its protein and fat content is lower than that of brown rice. This is why this rice is not as healthy as brown rice in terms of nutrient density.

    Did you know?

Unlike other cereals, rice is gluten-free.

    1. arsenic makes rice less healthy

Rice is not necessarily healthy as it is often contaminated with inorganic arsenic. According to the consumer advice center, rice is not healthy in large quantities. This is because rice often contains inorganic arsenic. Arsenic is a chemical element that occurs naturally in the earth’s crust. However, it can also enter the natural cycle through sewage sludge or phosphate fertilizers. The arsenic content can vary depending on the type of rice, region, or cultivation method.

Even small amounts of inorganic arsenic can damage nerves and blood vessels in your body, promote cardiovascular disease, and cause cancer.

    1. rice is not healthy if it is contaminated with mineral oil and cadmium

Pesticide residues, cadmium, and mineral oil can also be found in rice, according to experts. This shows the other side of the coin of the nutrient-rich seed coat: the outer layer contains toxins that are no longer present in polished rice (white rice).

    1. rice is a healthy source of energy

Rice is high in carbohydrates and is therefore a healthy source of energy for the body. At least 50 percent of our daily diet should consist of carbohydrates. Rice contains a lot of carbohydrates and is therefore a healthy source of energy.

Thanks to its high carbohydrate content, it will keep you full for a long time. However, to maintain a balanced diet, you should eat rice with low-carb side dishes.

    1. rice is healthy as part of a balanced diet

You may also have heard of a rice diet. This can help you lose weight very quickly, as rice binds excess water and flushes it out of your body.

If you want to go on a rice diet, you should bear in mind that your body may lack vitamins or suffer from a nutrient deficiency. This is because rice alone does not provide these essential building blocks. Also, note that rice has a relatively low protein content. This can cause your muscles to break down slowly. Because rice cannot be healthy for your body with this unbalanced diet, we advise against a rice diet.

    CONCLUSION

One alternative to rice is couscous, for example. There is no clear answer to the question of whether rice is healthy. Some of the five points speak in favor of rice, others against it.

Here are five tips on how you can eat rice as part of a healthy diet:

    • To ensure that rice is healthy for you, don’t eat it in huge portions. You should also use other sources of carbohydrates besides rice, such as quinoa, couscous, or bulgur.
    • Wash the rice before cooking to reduce the amount of inorganic arsenic.
    • Make sure that infants and small children do not eat too much rice. The consumer advice center advises reducing foods such as rice cakes or rice porridge for small children to the bare minimum.
    • If you want to avoid the mineral oil content in rice, do not buy rice loose in cartons. Ökotest assumes that the cardboard packaging could be responsible for the increased mineral oil content in rice. An alternative is to buy rice in an unpackaged store.
