When you talk to many parents and even teachers, they associate gaming with something that is a terrible waste of time for young people and adults alike. This is an opinion coming from probably someone who has never played a modern computer game before and statistics tell us that playing games provides many benefits both physically and mentally. Many Australian parents openly discourage their children from playing too many games and while this makes sense from a parent’s point of view, as long as you restrict the amount of time that your child can play then they can enjoy the benefits.
It’s likely that your kid has been asking you to buy them a desktop PC so that they can play games and do their homework. You suspect that the former is the real reason for the computer and not the latter but you would be wrong. Even adults love playing games in their free time and it provides them with many health benefits including less stress levels and the ability to be able to multitask. These are skills that roll over into their day-to-day life and so gaming isn’t as bad as you might think. There are many benefits for both adults and children when it comes to playing games and hopefully, this will encourage you to buy your kids that gaming monitor that they have been asking for.
- Better cognitive skills – These skills are especially important for young children and even more so for adults as we age. Playing computer games can really improve on your cognitive abilities and it helps to improve concentration skills as well which are highly valuable in the classroom and in the workplace.
- Hand-to-eye coordination skills – We send our kids to kindergarten and to primary school because we want them to learn these essential skills that will allow them to adapt to their daily lives. As a parent, you probably want to teach your child how to ride their bikes quite soon and so they will need better hand-to-eye coordination to be able to master the skill. As an adult, this will help you greatly if you do a job that requires this skill in great abundance.
- It’s great for multitasking – It is disappointing but many Australians are unable to do to 3 things at one time and this is not conducive to a productive working environment or an efficient household. By letting your child play computer games, they will learn about multitasking because there are so many different things to do at one time when playing any of these games. Their communication skills will also improve as well because you can play in teams and so you have to communicate with your other team players.
