Evan Hafer was born and raised in northern Idaho. Evan Hafer grew up near the Snake and Clearwater rivers’ confluence in northern Idaho. Growing up, he would watch his father and his grandfather start their days in the Idaho mountains with a thermos of hot coffee, working and enjoying themselves.
From an early age, Hafer had the desire to join the military and defend his country. After finishing high school, he entered Idaho University, where he read political science and government.
After graduating from Idaho University, he joined the Washington National Guard. He excelled in both marksmanship and physical conditioning during training and entered the Special Forces program to become a Green Beret as soon as he completed Basic Training.

Evan Hafer spent 20 years of his career working for the CIA as a contractor, a Special Forces soldier, and an infantryman in the U.S. Army.
While in the Army, Evan led African Contingency Operations, trained local forces to defend their countries, performed high-risk security operations, and carried out numerous missions. He also trained journalists on how to live in battle regions.
Evan Hafer also served in Iraq and Afghanistan as a Special Serviceman and an Infantry soldier. In order to bring coffee with him on his deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan, he began roasting coffee in 2006 after falling in love with it in Seattle.
In order to offer the working man high-quality, roast-to-order coffee, he founded Black Rifle Coffee Company in 2014. Evan Hafer stated that he wanted a career that would allow him to combine his love of his country, his love of his neighborhood and family, and his love of excellent coffee.
