If you are looking for how to prepare for a boudoir photoshoot, then you are at the perfect place. In this article, we are going to tell you everything you need to do when you are preparing for a boudoir photoshoot.

Now, what is a boudoir photoshoot? A boudoir session is a photographic session in which you dress up in beautiful costumes, lingerie, gowns, or even go barely dressed and have your photos shot for a variety of reasons.

How to Prepare for a Boudoir Photoshoot

  1. Give your skin and face some Treatment.

The first thing to do in your preparations on how to prepare for a boudoir photoshoot is to hydrate. Before the shoot, make sure you’re getting plenty of water. Skin that is properly hydrated is radiant and attractive.

Before you go to the shoot, wash and moisturize your face. Show up without make-up and let the photographer take care of the rest. Every session you book includes complimentary hair and makeup.

Trim and/or wax your brows if necessary. If you’re on the verge of a unibrow, have them done before you go. A close-up photo with overgrown brows is unattractive, and it’s not something that can be fixed with Photoshop.

2. Get Your Physique in Shape

Don’t be that lady who thinks she has to starve herself to appear nice in photos — love yourself for who you are, curves and all. You’ll spend 4-5 hours there and won’t have time to eat snacks,  so eat a hearty meal before going to help keep your energy levels up.

Wear loose clothing to the studio to avoid weird lines on your skin caused by panties, bras, and socks.
On the morning of your appointment, shave your legs, armpits, and intimate area. Alternatively, if you wax, plan your appointment a few days before the shoot.

If you have tan lines, go to a tanning bed before your shoot to level out your skin.
Do some stretches for the entire week leading up to your session to get your body ready for all the strange and unusual ways it’s about to move. This will reduce the amount of pain you’ll be in afterwards.

Many boudoir photographers have never done a boudoir shoot, and if your boudoir photographer hasn’t done a boudoir shoot, you’re in for a week or more of back pain.
If you want to go all out, book a massage for the day after your session to iron out any kinks.

Because the majority of the images will feature your hands and feet, you’ll want them to be as beautiful as you are.
Consider your nail colour and how you’d like to appear in images. Make sure you like the shade, whether it’s a colour or a French manicure.

Nude, pink, crimson, or maroon are good choices, but bright hues like orange or blue should be avoided. Colours like that detract from the beauty of the subject of the photograph by standing out too strongly. Make your hands and feet the same hue.
Do you have any calluses on the bottoms of your feet? If you don’t already have one, get one because your feet will be seen in the images.

4. Take good care of your hair

Get your hair highlighted or coloured before going for the shoo. Be sure to schedule a touch-up appointment before your boudoir session.
Make sure you like the colours of your hair! If you’re considering changing your hair colour, be sure it’s one you’ll enjoy looking back on.

Avoid using too much product on your hair because it can appear oily in images. Leave the guessing to your stylist, who will know just how much to apply to make your hair shiny but not greasy.

Make sure you’re happy with your hairstyle. It doesn’t matter if your hair is down to your ankles or if you are completely bald; confidence is everything, girl! If you like your hair, it will show in photographs, but if you don’t, it will as well. If you don’t like your existing hairstyle, get it corrected before your appointment or carry a wig along.

5.  Get your lingerie ready!

So, LINGERIE is the secret to a fun and sensual boudoir shoot.

Your Lingerie Guide will be sent to you after you book, which includes tips on how to choose the best lingerie for your body type as well as information on where to buy it.

Even if you intend to borrow items from the studio closet, carry at least three outfits in case what they have in the studio doesn’t fit or appeal to you. If you have more, that’s even better; once you get there, they will help you in choosing the appropriate one.

6. Go and have fun

You are done with your preparations on how to prepare for a boudoir photoshoot! Now, go and have fun my dear. It’s going to be a lot of fun! You don’t need to know how to model to do a boudoir photoshoot. Your photographer will posture you and give you feedback throughout the whole process.

If you’re the type of girl who enjoys “homework,” one approach to get extra prepared for your shoot is to do what I used to do the following; 1) Look through our Pinterest board and analyze the faces of the models in those images, 2) Choose a few photos that particularly appeal to you, and 3) Practice the emotions in these photos in the mirror.

Keep in mind that modelling, like anything else, requires practice and that models have YEARS of experience. If you don’t look like a model, don’t beat yourself up.

The idea is to have a good time while doing this activity. There’s no need to be concerned because most boudoir photographers have modelling experience and will teach you how to position yourself correctly. So don’t be concerned.

Now that you know how to prepare for a boudoir photoshoot, you can unwind and prepare for an unforgettable experience. We wish you the very best.
