Bart was born and raised in Ripley, Tennessee, an agricultural town of 3,000 inhabitants. His father was a lawyer. Bart’s parents married 17 years before he was born.
In May 1963, Bart Durham received his law degree after two years of service in the Army. While still recovering from kidney stone surgery, he took the bar exam in July.
After serving in the attorney general’s office for six years, Bart Durham started his own practice in 1975.
Bart Durham joined forces with Henry Haile, a distinguished attorney with whom he had previously served in the attorney general’s office.
