John Lithgow was born in Rochester, New York, on October 19, 1945. His mother, former actress Sarah Jane Lithgow, raised him. His father, Arthur Washington Lithgow III, was a theater producer and director who oversaw Princeton, New Jersey’s McCarter Theatre.
