Oprah Winfrey was born on January 29, 1954, in Kosciusko, Mississippi, the United States. At age 6, she moved to Milwaukee, Wisconsin with her mother where she started her education.
Winfrey started working as a newscaster for the local CBS television station at the age of 19. After graduating from Tennessee State University in 1976, she was hired as a reporter and co-anchor by the Baltimore, Maryland, ABC news affiliate.

Winfrey then relocated to Chicago in 1984 to host the failing talk show AM Chicago. The program became a success due to Winfrey’s openness and engaging personality, and in 1985 it was renamed The Oprah Winfrey Show.
