Mitch Green is an American professional boxer who is well-known for going the “full distance” with Mike Tyson, who was undefeated at the time with 20 matches won in a row of which 19 are knockouts.

Green was raised in the Bronx on 175th Street between Clay and Anthony Avenues. He attended DeWitt Clinton High School which is located in the Bronx, New York. After graduating from high school, Green was employed as a security guard.

In the late 1970s, Green started his boxing career as an amateur boxer and won the New York Golden Gloves four times(1976, 1977, 1979, and 1980). He has a record of 64 wins and 7 losses, with 51 wins by knockout as an amateur.

Mitch Green became a pro boxer in 1980 and signed a contract with the rock promoter, Shelly Finkel, and won his first six bouts.
On August 10, 1985, he suffered his first defeat, in a twelve-round decision loss to future WBC champion, Trevor Berbick in a fight for the USBA championship.
Mitch Green‘s fight with Mike Tyson in 1986, is believed to be his most famous ever. Despite losing a ten-round unanimous decision, Green fought valiantly. At one point, he managed to knock out one of Tyson’s gold teeth.
